However, many of the skills have been condensed. Most of the ability scores effect their related skills and a few other things. Str and Dex do not effect attack rolls in the same way as they do in D&D. Note that ability scores usefulness is more normalized in M&M than D&D. They are the same 6 ability scores as D&D: Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha. Each +1 increase costs a single power point. I'll break them down here:Ībility Scores - Ability Scores start at 10 and can go as high as 36 (+13 bonus) in a power level 8 game. Traits can generally be broken down into the following categories: Ability Scores, Skills, Feats, Powers, Combat Traits (Defense Bonus, Attack Bonus) and Saving Throws. The power level is 8, so characters have 120 points to spend on various traits. You'll start with a pool of power points based on the Power Level. Quoth, the better idea you have of what you want your character to be, the easier it will be to sit with the book once and generate your character. Quick Reference Sheet - Something I made to minimize rulebook lookups during play.Īvailability seems pretty sporadic, so we may well end up doing it play by post. I'm generally pretty lenient about what is an acceptable character, but I will not accept any characters with Mimic, Variable, Gadget or any other "I have all powers" schemes. At this time, there are around 50 meta-humans enrolled in the school under the watchful eye of the headmaster Duncan Summers. You'll be playing students entering their freshmen year at Claremont Academy, along with a dozen or so NPCs. I'd probably be looking at 6ish Power Level 8 Characters. So in addition to saving the day around the city, you'd have challenges related specifically to the classes you are taking (IE, if you don't put any ranks in knowledges, you may end up repeating history a few times) This would be a teen heroes campaign ala the X-Men, but there would be a good amount of focus on the school side of things like you see in the Harry Potter books. This game would be set in the Freedom City setting, specifically at the prestigious Claremont Academy. The core rules include everything you need to make almost any character you could want. In addition the the normal d20 fare, you also have a damage save rather than hit points, only needing 1 die to play, and a ala carte trait buying system rather than prepackaged classes. Mutants and Masterminds is a d20 based Superhero RPG made by Green Ronin. I'm leaning towards the former, as Talon's Pearl City game was pretty much the most fun I've had with a roleplaying game. I haven't decided if this will be IRC or PbP. Just thought I'd see if anyone would be interested in a little M&M fun.
